A business plan?? You mean as a developer I actually need to generate appreciable revenues in order to run a viable business? That's a pretty provocative statement! JK Khyle....I could not agree more. I was just on a really interesting call on talkshoe concerning 3rd party licensing mechanisms and a central venue for developers who want to build things for Asterisk. You might find it interesting, you can listen to the recording of the call here http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=22622&cmd=tc

@ khyle

I also think that having a business plan that includes how your are going to make money will help future Voice 2.0 companies...not to mention that most of these services, while cool to "us" are not that attractive to the average Joe (at least not yet).

With recent news on TalkPlus and Jangl in mind, I think the point that the business market is the future for Voice 2.0 is dead on. And it's for the reason you cite, it's easier to monetize. And as people will tell you from experience, the ROI is potentially huge.

I also wanted to add a note to your last point. My company, IfByPhone, along with others provide APIs that make it even easier for developers to get started writing applications. We have built in IVR functionality, and it is pretty easy to drive calls dynamically using a company's database as the engine. I'm sure you can do the same things with Asterisk - but you can cut development time fairly dramatically by using an already existing API.
