Cisco’s Application Extension Platform, “AXP” for short, is an “open source” network application develipment, integration and hosting platform. AXP is available as a service module on the Cisco Integrated Services Router (ISR) which includes the Cisco 1800, 2800 and 3800 Series Routers amongst others. Cisco’s AXP Dev platform reinforces their “Network as a Platform” concept and encourages collaborative partnerships with the goal of accelerating innovation. Read more

On September 30th, Digium announced the release of three new Switchvox Digium appliances. The AA65, AA305, and AA355 were all introduced and taking the place of the older AA60, AA300, and AA350 SMB appliances. The new appliances will boast a current branding change from Digium with front panel LCD and controls. Here is a nice a look at the new branding and LCD support. Read more
New Unidata WPU-7700 Firmware
Last week, Unidata introduced their latest firmware release for the WPU-7700 WiFI Phone. The new release (version 2.7.0) adds the following functionality and fixes:
- Language String: Added Czech and correction of German languages
- Provisioning: Download certificate when provisioning
- PC-SYNC: Enable access to pc-sync from other subnet
- Hold: You can now Press # key to cancel completely
- During phone lock, you do not have to enter a password when transfer
- Default Time Setting: Displayed as 2009.1.1 before registered
- Add Configuration Server feature

When I first started blogging about VoIP “way back” in 2005 I penned one of the most popular “blog lists” of that year.
The Smith On VoIP top 30 VoIP blogs was a celebration of the thought leaders who were shaping my own thoughts and ideas about the VoIP industry at large. Fast forward over four years and people are still cranking out blog lists like they’re going out of style.
In fact in the last six to eight weeks, I’ve seen a number of top VoIP blog lists spring-up which look to rank the most popular and influential voices in the industry. As a former list compiler myself I know the difficulties in selecting the best blogs, because ranking the”best” is so subjective.
