Truphone is now offering its VoIP over Wifi service on all Nokia E-Series phones. Nokia’s E-Series phones incorporate GPRS/EGPRS and WCDMA networks for fast, wide area connectivity with WiFi for complementary local area connectivity. I have seen several implementations of the Nokia E-70 being used with Asterisk and have heard of varying degrees of success with the E-70 being used in conjunction with softphones. However, this offering from Truphone is the first service that I have heard of that fully supports the E-Series phones. What makes this very exciting is that you do not have recurring monthly charges with Truphone. It is a pay as you go service that is meant to complement your existing cell phone service. If you are one of the many people in the United States that only has a cell phone you too can now take advantage of all the benefits and cost savings associated with VoIP.
